Just as 'Cool Britannia' was a short-lived piece of media aimed at promoting the UK to a world audience, so too is the forthcoming summer of 2012 putting Britain back on the world's stage.
Thanks to our Brit Pop and the contemporary notoriety of Brit Art (I thank you, David Hockney RA) we have never had more to boast about: so let's get behind our superb current day heroes of the track, field, sail and bat. After bathing your little bundles of loveliness in a lavender-based bath essence (after the previous night's disaster and middle of the night whingeing from junior), you take the small children to the cupboard to choose nightwear.

The baby sleeps like a king in his Crown Baby Vest (£10.95). His bedtime story is The Prince's Bedtime (£7.95) but he is asleep before they get to page 5. He falls asleep with his favourite wooden Tractor and Trailer in his arms (£5.95).

We should change our name to Little Cushion Company, frankly. I cannot believe how clever our seamstress ladies are - so in awe are we, infact, that we have listed pretty much every cushion in their repartee.

You name it, we have it.

Bunnies? check. Ducks? check. Fire Engine. Yup. Red Bus? that too. Pigs? check. Trains? yes, two designs, ditto the Tractors. Pirate? yes-siree. Oriental Doll? let me just check.. yes, we have that too. You see? We are SERIOUS about cushions.

We can personalise your cushions or even have a design created for you. *happy sigh* anything is possible in the giddy world of Cushions. They make the perfect present for a newborn's bedroom, a birthday present and a Christening gift. A personalised cushion is the gift that keeps on giving, and from only £33 we are the most affordable of all of the stockists of this design range.

We are very proud (and lucky) to have such clever artistic suppliers working with us. Our personalised cushions have gone statospheric and have been selling like the proverbial hot-cake.

We took a bit of time to get to know the ladies behind Malooshi (formerly My Grandmother's Fairytales), and have gleaned some interesting background information on a partnership which has resulted in excellent quality artwork cushions.

Speaking with Sylwia Peczak earlier this month we found out the inspiration behind the business:
I started to make some crocheted pieces when I was studying Interior Design in Windsor College , my Friend Svietlana Khramova looked at them and decided that she would like to make an Exhibition of my Crocheted Products in her Art Gallery in Eton/Windsor. Me and my other Friend Joanna Kociuba (who has better crochet skills than me ) made a whole range of Products : Cushions, bedspreads, canvases, baskets for the Exhibition which was a huge success. We had many visitors all over the world telling us how unique our products are , we also made a lot of sales. So, after the Exhibition we decided to make it into the business.

What makes your Crochet Cushions unique?
We make personalised cushions, blankets and canvases. It is not possible to make the crochet appliqué on any machine—it has to be hand made. Nobody , so far, discovered crochet that way—to make the crochet appliqué . We design them by ourselves—making the drawing and trying to make the first pattern. My auntie who has been crocheting for over 50 years (making the most beautiful table cloths and jumpers) told me that she has never seen something like we do and I had to teach her (!) how to make it.

What is your best selling product?
Our bestselling product is a personalised cushion with a Tractor on it. We have this Tractor in different colours and on different fabric background, so every customer can find their favourite one .

What impact has LPC had on your business?
Starting to sell with LPC gave us the confidence. When somebody else who knows a lot of about the online business (LPC) appreciate our products and want to sell it – It means that we are on a good path with our company.

The much-anticipated arrival of the new LPC 'baby' from Giddy Kipper has arrived. We have taken delivery of a box of goods with self-congratulatory pride. Well done us for finding such a brilliant English supplier! We are so very grateful for all of the careful time taken by the clever and talented team in rural Lincolnshire.

Here we celebrate the Jolly Roger motif, and whilst it has its roots in the blood-thirsty, we celebrate its cheeky nature with a whole host of children's accessories. Each of the Skulls is smiling (gappy, toothless smiles, granted) but they mean no harm. Flushed with Spring

It's not the chocolate in the Easter weekend which is driving us forwards, it is the smell of Spring in the air. After a long and grey winter under a blanket of snow, it is encouraging to see the newborn lambs in the fields again. We have all sorts of newborn animals in our range here at the Little Present Company: lambs, calfs, ducklings, bunnies and piglets. It is like a glorious farmyard of newborns without any of the mucking out or feeding.

Our Sheep Bookends (£18), Wensleydale Sheep stool (£25) and Lamb wallstickers are bleeting with joy.

We can't mention the sheep and ignore our bunnies. Our bunnies are the most popular of all the animals in our range. I must confess that we have a rabbit-proof fence around our garden to keep the hungry little critters out, but these wooden/button/painted versions are more than welcome to stay. Our bunny cushions are a popular newborn gift by award-winning designer Jessica Graham (£22) and the original Blackboard is a best-seller again this Spring at only £12.99.

In the spirit of all things 'newborn', I can highly recommend the quality of the wall stickers we sell. The Jolly Roger is a flag flown to identify a ship's crew as Pirates. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the flag was flown to frighten pirates' victims into surrendering without a fight, since it conveyed the message that the attackers were outlaws who were not bound by the usual rules of engagement.

Emma Hendrix is as soulful as Jimi Hendrix, but has no musical ability (bar karaoke after a few Bacardis). Instead, she focuses her energies on being a mum and working all hours. Inspired by her surname, I recalled my favourite Hendrix song and realised that quite a few of the lyrics have some (loose) connection with our product range.

Pancake Heaven

Flippin' Fantastic Fun Day... we are mixing the batter and buttering the pans ready for a pancake flip and race. My kitchen ceiling still bears the grease stains of last year's mishap. I was too enthusiastic and ended up being disqualified.

If the kitchen at Little Present Company headquarters were a bakery, the hottest buns of the moment are without a doubt our hand-whittled Windsor Children's Chairs. They are made to order, and as fresh and as original as a baked bunnage. Get them whilst they are hot for only £75.

Being Lent we are now on a nil-junk-by-mouth policy. It is very hard (nay, impossible) to imagine how we are going to cope without the cheeky choccie snacks and sweeties which regularly find their way into our working day. Forgive my talking about sweet treats, but the only thing we are allowed in our life for the next 40 days and 40 nights are *drum roll* the Cupcake Applique Blankets, Babygrows and Cupcake Mounted Name Frame (£30), Gingerbread Blackboard (£12.99), Icecream Clock (£34) nor the Sweet Treats Arch Mirror (£53). We are allowed the Strawberry Clock (£34) though, so it's all good. Fresh and sweet, just like us.

Clever Home-Grown Creative Talent at LPC

Claire Ramshaw, of Ava.P, has always been creative. “I've always drawn and painted since I was a little girl. It's always been my passion. At school I'd add pictures to essays and reports to try and get a better mark!”

Following her natural leaning towards the Arts, Claire studied textiles at the Newcastle Art College, and later went to Edinburgh to concentrate on vintage clothing. It is this broad knowledge of fabric, colour and texture that Claire brings to her fabulous frames, canvases and more recently, her gorgeous beaded Keepsake Boxes. (Canvases £40, Boxes £28/£38 and Frames £35).

We are so proud to be able to be a shop window for Claire’s unique work at the Little Present Company. Each of her pieces is made to order and personalised with an exuberant flair. Once Claire’s daughter was born, she established ‘Ava.P’ which gives her the opportunity to put all of her skills into practice. PROUD TO SELL BRITISH

We are all about sourcing good, honest, British products here at the Little Present Company. It is with great pleasure that we introduce 3 creative artists to you: each with a different medium, but all sharing that essential ‘British-ness’ which is our ethos at the Little Present Company.

Sarah Watkins, founder and designer of Fairbourn Children’s Furniture is right up our ethical street. It was after her son was born that Sarah tried, unsuccessfully to find furniture and attractive accessories for her home. Using her background in design, she set about creating her unique range of wooden items which are based on the Shaker principles on honesty to the materials: “whatever is fashioned, let it be plain and simple and for the good”.

Her carved and painted words Love, Dream and Angel are brilliantly adaptable. Made from solid wood from renewable sources, they are painted and distressed by hand in her workshop. They can be wall-mounted or table top displayed and are available in a range of soft pastel colours (£36 each). Her cheeky Bunny, Gingerbread Man and Love Heart blackboards have been flying off the shelves since we introduced them into our range in November, and at £12.99 each, it is hardly surprising.

All of Sarah’s wooden accessories are made by hand. The soft palette range and integrity to the wood give each one a lovely vintage feel. She gleans ‘real pleasure’ from creating beautiful pieces. Designed, produced and sold from North Yorkshire through the Little Present Company, these Fairbourn wooden accessories have ‘local’ metaphorically stamped all over them.

Similarly local to us at the Little Present Company is Dick Willis’s furniture workshop. We are the only on-line distributor of his stunning range of hand-crafted children’s Windsor-style furniture which he has been producing since the late 1960s. His empathy for the wood and his intrinsic knowledge of early 18th Century domestic furniture has earned him a faultless reputation and a loyal following. Pieces of his furniture are extremely popular presents to mark important occasions, such as a birth or a Christening, and Mr Willis is able to engrave initials and dates along the back rung of the chairs. Each child’s chair is £75 and made to order.

We have recently introduced a range of children’s solid Oak and Elm stools. Each one has been whittled and carved locally in Bedale, no one the same. The average size is around 21cm tall and at £25 each, it is a solid investment in a life-lasting piece of elegant furniture.

We inherited Maxine Pharaoh when we bought the Little Present Company in 2009, and she has continued to be one of our top-selling artists. Hand-Made Wooden Stools

Our friendly local genius, Dick Willis, has given us four gorgeous stools to sell. Each one has been whittled and carved locally in Bedale with a skill perfected over the years. There are a range of sizes, the average being approx 21cm tall, is 30cm x 20cm on the top and has 4 sturdy legs.

We have 2 oak and 2 elm, the latter being 'blonde' colour.

It is also possible to get an image etched on (with a burning rod - very clever): a Highland Cow, a Swaledale Sheep, a harnessed Horse and a Monarch Stag. Your choice, please specify at checkout.

Keepsake Boxes

We are delighted and excited to introduce more products from our very favourite Claire Ramshaw of Ava P. She extraordinarily talented and has created a new and interesting range of gifts for girls and boys of all ages.

Her Boys boxes Car, Ship and Skull and Cross Bones, the former two are available in sky blue and the latter is in black only. The Girls boxes are Heart, Pink Pram and Butterfly available in pink, lilac or cream eggshell.

Each box is 16.5x26.5x8cm (medium) for £28 or 20x20x9cm (large) for £38. There is a felt base to the boxes so that they do not damage the surface. Inside, Claire adds a small plaque with the child's name and a few buttons and love hearts.

New Supplier: Hand Made Mirrors & Clocks

Happy New Year, one and all! Here's to a very happy and successful 2011, and a massive thank you to all of our loyal customers who have supported us so generously. You will shortly be receiving a discount code in the post - keep it safe so you can get 10% discount from your next order.

We are very excited to be welcoming some new products to our website. The first is the very talented Liz Mortimer who designs and hand-makes all of her clocks and mirrors.

Every piece is handmade to order making each one unique and something to be cherished for many years. When Liz'z 2 boys were young, she noticed that there were no exciting or distinctive children's mirrors around. Dipping into her skills and a Fine Art Degree, she decided to design her own. That was 10 years ago and she has never looked back.

All the mirrors and clocks are made from wood and clay relief, painted twice, varnished twice then decorated with sequins and glitter, even metallic and glow in the dark paints so don't be surprised if you can still see them when you switch out the lights! The mirrors are papier-mached onto the back for extra safety as this means no pieces will fall out if the mirror is broken. The clocks have all their numbers on the front so that children can learn to tell the time.

Each product can be personalised with names, dates and messages making them fab presents for birthdays, Christenings,weddings, Christmas and any other special occasion.

Christmas Cheer

With the snow falling heavily all around us, we can be forgiven for being more festive than a Christmas pudding. We should also be forgiven for eating more than our own bodyweight in carbs and sweet treats. It's the cold, it just forces me into the biscuit jar.

The sweetest treat we have had this week has been a flurry of sales of our one-off items. Our Horn Bon Bon dish, Wooden Sink, hand carved Child's Foot Stools and Child's windsor chairs have all sold and gone to good homes.

An Overdue Update from LPC

We are dead on our posh-shod feet. The physical toll of exhibiting, selling and marketing is showing itself in our bodies and minds and houses.... The long hours on our feet have given us swollen ankles, our minds are blurred and our homes are full to bursting with ironing do-to and breakfast bowls to clear away (from last month). BUT it has all been worth it. So far, our 2010 Christmas Fair season - which we are nearly half way through - has been a great success and we have handed out nearly one million leaflets and taken nearly as many orders. Thank you to everyone for giving us such a moral hug. It is a rare opportunity for us to be able to step out from behind the website and meet the customers face-to-face.

Our best-selling wooden toys have been from the small boy's range of pull along trains, push-along tractors and toolkits. We met a lot of grannies who were keen to buy sturdy presents for their little terrors, but they were not wanting to break the bank (Train is £9.95 and Tool Box £19.95) or break the peace at the same time. No drum kits this year, just good wooden toys for little hands and adventurous minds.

The small girls have treats lined up for their Christmas presents too this year. We sold lots of our gorgeous 'Jenny' Floral nighties (£16.95 makes it the most affordable long-sleeved cotton night dress out there) and our unique shaped blackboards. The Gingerbread Man with Bite attracted lots of attention (£12.99) and the Bunny and Heart shapes were a big hit too. We have only a couple left, so please order now if you are interested to avoid disappointment.

We cannot believe our luck. Our favourite Wood Whittler, Dick Willis, has introduced a new range of child's chair. We have a few here in stock: elm, oak and distressed finish available, all with yew back rungs. To celebrate this new introductory range, we have reduced all of the prices from £105 per chair to only £75 so get buying before we change our minds! Call us for more information...

An Early Christmas Reminder

Christmas is coming (and along with the goose getting fat) we are filling up on wooden toys, personalised canvases, wall stickers and ride-on bikes and scooters. Boys have a few more presents now too, with sporty photo frames and some fantastically sturdy wooden shields and swords.

We are all about sourcing good, honest, British products here at LPC. Sarah Watkins, founder and designer of Fairbourn Children’s Furniture is right up our ethical street.

It was after her son was born that Sarah tried, unsuccessfully to find furniture and attractive accessories for her home. Using her background in design, she set about creating her unique range of wooden items which are based on the Shaker principles on honesty to the materials: “whatever is fashioned, let it be plain and simple and for the good”.

Sarah’s creative flair is evident in her range of quirky objects. The carved and painted words Love, Dream and Angel are brilliantly adaptable. Made from solid wood from renewable sources, they are painted and distressed by hand in her workshop. Since buying the on-line gift site in November 2009, www.littlepresentcompany.co.uk, it has flourished under the careful guidance of business women, Emma Hendrix and Emily Peart. Both are committed mothers to small children, and during pre-school hours, they find time to devote their energies to the website and its artists.
Both bubbly blondes with great smiles and huge energy, they obviously enjoy what they do. ‘We have so much fun finding new products which are hand-made and of outstanding quality. Our product range is stacked full of things that make us smile,’ says Emily.
The first 9 months of business have been exciting and challenging for the girls. Despite the recession they have found business to be regular and surprisingly buoyant. ‘There is plenty of demand for personalised presents, and people are generally prepared to buy something which has been made to order and will last a lifetime’.

After going from a jewellery degree at the Central St Martins College of Art in London, and a time working in children's television, Tina has blended her artistic know-how with her empathy for children to give us ‘Tobyboo’. Theme of the Week: HRH's Footsoldiers

It is Changing of the Guards here at the Little Present Company. Our smart guardsmen are as keen as mustard to leave their post at Buckingham Palace and come to guard your little soldier's bedroom or nursery. However, they DO need to be back in London for the Royal Wedding on 29th April.

They are especially smart in their scarlet tunic and bearskin caps, and (I have been assured by the Major of the regiment) are house-trained and tidy.

Christmas is coming... ding dong merrily on high... or so the supermarkets would have us believe. We have shelves stocked high with bumper tins of chocolates and boxed nuts. I am like the next man and love a bit of festive cheer: but in September?!

It is with this in mind that we are casually, calmly and gently introducing our Christmas stock. The drip-feed method is always better received than the full onslaught of ringing bells and carols on a loop.

We have brilliantly gifted artist-seamstresses in our LPC Family, and because of this wonderful working relationship, we are able to introduce our new bespoke and exclusive Children's Christmas Sacks. Each one is personalised to order with the child's name, address and message hand-sewn with love. I have bought one for each of my children as we have used pillow cases for years. I am pleased to say that the pillow cases are firmly back on the beds and these lovely sacks are getting ready for Santa's arrival. At £60 each, they are lined, personalised and made to last a childhood of happy memories.

The Thrill of Made to Order

It is such a luxury to be able to order a present, which you know will be made from scratch especially for you. We have a handful of artists waiting in the wings, tools at the ready, to launch into production the moment the order arrives. The only 'machinery' is the whirring of business brains and sewing machines. There are no factory lines on our bespoke orders: just the way we like it.

We are extremely excited to introduce a new range of children's Irish Oak chairs. They have been successfully sold through magazines for nearly 10 years, but the artist has now chosen to tap into our niche and sell them through our Furniture section of the Little Present Company website. They sit perfectly alongside our beloved Windsor-style chairs, and similarly can be engraved with a child's name and significant date (be it birth or christening) and even a fun creative design on the second rung. Blackboards aplenty

We have just taken delivery of our first batch of quirky Blackboard shapes. They are completely gorgeous - large enough for individual doodling and cute enough to be an asset to any room - and we are thrilled to have them in our stock. They are made in Yorkshire (yeay! no nasty air miles) and retail at only £12.99 each. You can't shake a chalk-stick at that.

Our other Blackboards continue to be a great present for Christenings and Weddings, primarily. The personalised boards come in 3 sizes and are hand-painted in Scotland (double yeay! no nasty air miles). Our customers tend to hang them in their kitchens and scrawl shopping lists on them, or to post cheeky comments between married couples: 'See you later, Sugar', or 'Put the bins out, you lazy spud' etc.

One of our existing artists has just introduced a range of small personalised children's blackboards into her range, which we are hoping to incorporate into our stock this winter. They are colourful borders with the child's name as a title, surrounded by pretty decoration and design. If my parents had given me something like this as a child it would have stopped me from drawing on the walls... (sorry mummmmmy!)

The Gift Dilema

This afternoon we are off to a 6 year old's birthday party. The 'Present Problem' arose over breakfast this morning.

Me: 'Would Ed like a wooden sword and shield for his birthday, do you think?'
James (aged 6): 'No way, he's into action figures.'
Me: 'are you sure he won't like these fantastic mechanical lego bits... or this environmentally sound silent ride-on bike...?'
James: 'I'm sure. He likes battles with stuff from the tv.'
Me: 'or this little cricket set...?'
James: 'Mummy. No. Ben 10, Star Wars or Doctor Who'.

It appears our product range is lacking when it comes to anything over the age of 5 for birthday gifts. With TV adverts pushing large pieces of expensive plastic at the children, it is small wonder that they want to play with the latest figure who comes equipped with green goo and battery-powered sword-wielding retro-blasters inter-galactik laser shooter blammers. So it is with some reluctance that I went to a local toy shop and bought a Star Wars Lightsaber.... and as cool as it is with the flashing lights and swishing noises, I know our LPC classic wooden swords and shields are more long-lasting and a better gift all round (especially at only £7.95 for a sword and £8.95 for the shield = cheaper than the Star Wars tat).

So it is my mission to set about improving the range of birthday gifts available for boys and girls, for affordable but fun things which will be well-received and won't break the bank. EEeeeek!

Good bye Summer, Hello Autumn

The autumnal winds have blown summer away. I have lit the Aga and dug out my chunky knits. How did it all go so quickly? The children start school on Thursday and our little 4 year olds, Freddie and Molly, are new-starters. There is going to be a lot of emotion in the carpark after dropping them off. When James started 2 years ago, I sat in my car and sobbed. So with more time on my hands from now on, the Little Present Company is going to have more of my time and energy. It is our 3rd child anyway, but this one does not have to sit on the Naughty Step and is always happy to see us.

Our final summer swan-song was this weekend and went off with a bang. It was a camping weekend, and thanks to an inflatable mattress and the delicious quilted quality of our sleeping bags, the children slept really well. So well, infact, that we are considering a Camping Fest in our field every summer from now on. Large amounts of beer and wine helped the grown ups to sleep, but the children snuggled into their padded bags and slept off the sugar-rush of the marshmallows and excessively sugary drinks. (Sleeping bags available through LPC at £45 per bag, which is a great price to pay for a full night's sleep!).

Our commitment to our customers every whim is perfectly demonstrated in our latest successfully completed order.

After being happy with the quality of the 'Tractor and Trailer' personalised cushion to celebrate the birth of her first-born son, our lovely customer, Mrs W, was quick or order again. This time for her godson whose parents are keen hill walkers. She asked for a design to be created in earth colours and a subject matter personal to the Godson's family.

Our cushion-ladies draw up an image for approval, and then within a couple of days and a substantial amount of stitching, knitting and crocheting, they produce the final version of the 'Heath' cushion. Mrs W is delighted, and so are we: smiling faces all round.

Summer wardrobes are a tricky thing. It's often too chilly for strappy dresses, and too windy for floaty skirts. However, this summer is nothing but 'scorchio'. Hence our devotion to Mitty James's new season of children's beachwear. Our little sunshine Godlets are running around in new swimsuits, swim-shorts and, for when the British Breeze picks up, their funky stripey towelling hoodies. Thank you Mitty James!

It's enough to inspire a bucket and spade break away. Why not take a cricket set to the beach this summer for some Elie-style sporting action?

We are planning a Camping Weekend. We are very excited to introduce some new products to our bulging range of goodies.

Following the wonderful response we regularly receive about our personalised canvases, we have been approached by an artist who makes Button Name Frames in two sizes: up to 5 letters, and 6-9 letters. Since buying the on-line gift site in November 2009, www.littlepresentcompany.co.uk, it has flourished under the careful guidance of business women, Emma Hendrix and Emily Peart. Both are committed mothers to small children, and during pre-school hours, they find time to devote their energies to the website and its artists.

I love shopping. It is the discovering of unusual items which sets my heart-afluttering. This week's new products at the Little Present Company are unique, totally hand-made and thoroughly British.

Our multi-talented wood artist, Sarah Watkins, has produced a range of individual blackboard shapes. They are going to be ready for launch during this week, so keep your eyes peeled. We have a heart, a gingerbread man (with a bite-mark in his leg) and a bunny. Each one is large enough for doodles or important messages.

We have also been approached by a lovely bunch of ladies who make personalised crochet cushions. As you know, we love cushions here at LPC. Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise!

The cushions are also going to be added to the range during this week, but here is a sneak preview. Each one is 35x35cm and made with linen fabric and soft cotton yarn. The Little Present Company is extremely proud to be affiliated with ‘Jessica Graham’ cushion designs. These cushions are cute and quirky, with bold outlines. The characters have comedic expression, vibrant colour and brave off-centre placement. It is hardly surprising that these cushions won the prize for ‘Best New Children’s Product’ in the first year of trading at the Top Drawer show in 2009.

Her distinctive designs are a happy blend of inspiration from an early childhood spent in Asia and plenty of worldwide travel. This curiosity for different cultures has led her to produce a diverse range of vibrant designs.

Jessica’s popular Bunnies range has recently expanded into baby blankets, baby quilts, baby hats and bibs. These will be ready for sale from July 2010.

Jessica Graham is our funkiest creative force at the Little Present Company. With her wealth of creative successes (a First Class Honours degrees from London’s University of Arts) and the growing confidence gleaned from working at various design companies, Jessica has managed to blend her world into a range which befits both children’s and adults’ spaces. ‘I never intended for my designs to be solely for children, I wanted the motifs to be childlike, however also appeal to adults.’

Claire Ramshaw, of Ava.P, has always been creative. “I've always drawn and painted since I was a little girl. It's always been my passion. At school I'd add pictures to essays and reports to try and get a better mark!” Following her natural leaning towards the Arts, Claire studied textiles at the Newcastle Art College, and later went to Edinburgh to concentrate on vintage clothing.

It is this broad knowledge of fabric, colour and texture that Claire brings to her fabulous frames and canvases. We are so proud to be able to be a shop window for Claire’s unique work at the Little Present Company. Each of her pieces is made to order and personalised with an exuberant flair.

Once Claire’s daughter was born, she established ‘Ava.P’ which gives her the opportunity to put all of her skills into practice. We are all about sourcing good, honest, British products here at the Little Present Company. Sarah Watkins, founder and designer of Fairbourn Children’s Furniture is right up our ethical street.

It was after her son was born that Sarah tried, unsuccessfully to find furniture and attractive accessories for her home. Using her background in design, she set about creating her unique range of wooden items which are based on the Shaker principles on honesty to the materials: “whatever is fashioned, let it be plain and simple and for the good”.

Sarah’s creative flair is evident in her range of quirky objects. The carved and painted words Love, Dream and Angel are brilliantly adaptable. Made from solid wood from renewable sources, they are painted and distressed by hand in her workshop. They can be wall-mounted or table top displayed and are available in a range of soft pastel colours.

The adorable little hand made pastel-coloured mice is a present which will outlast any piece of newborn clothing. Sarah makes each of the small accessories held by the Little Present Company by her own hand. The soft palette range and integrity to the wood give each one a lovely vintage feel.

An Early Summer

The spring sunshine has encouraged a massive spring-clean in our house. We have dusted out the wendy house, polished the windows, shaken out the door mat and opened the windows. With this colourful-floral-birdsong attitude, we have embarked upon our Summer Range of goods here at the Little Present Company.

New in: children's swimshorts, towelling hoodies in fun colours and designs, and a range of outdoor toys to keep the little ones in the fresh air for as long as possible. With the newly mown grass (mmm the smell of summer!) underfoot, it is time for lunches in the sunshine and games of cricket and croquet and running races and... and... big fat siestas on beanbags.

Fingers crossed that this glorious sunshine continues for the rest of the school holidays. My daughter (aged 4) longs for a real pony but seems to be content with the Hobby Horse at the moment because it is soft and makes clip-clop noises; and my son (aged 6) is Sir Lancelot and using the wooden swords against me and the daffodils.

Local Press, Foreign Scammer and Chocolate Overload

Happy Easter!

This weekend we have had a lovely surprise to see that our Wooden Soldier Skittles, Croquet set, Bunting, Cupcake Blanket and Rosie Flo's Colouring books have received some glossy local press. 'Luxe' and 'Hitched' magazines have both given us double page features. The child models are as cute as candy, and our things look brilliant. We are extremely Happy Easter Bunnies indeed.

On a separate note, we nearly fell for a foreign scam last week. We received a bulk order from a charming man offering us untold amounts of cash for a speedy transaction on some wooden toys. Smelling a rather large rat, we donned our Jack Frost hats and unearthed some information which pointed towards the deal being based on marshmallow foundations. Rats!

Easter is over and I cannot close my fridge door for the amount of chocolate eggs and novelty sweet treats living within. It is sad to see the back of Easter, but now we can move into the summer range of toys and gifts. Roll on summer parties, camping holidays, wedding days and village fetes... oh and you know where to come for all the accessories.

Windsor-Style Child's Chairs

Emma and I drove down to meet Dick Willis, a gentleman craftsman who makes Windsor-style chairs from yew wood, in Bedale North Yorkshire. He is a wonderful elderly man who has talent and an understanding of his product like no-one else I have ever met. Being the enthusiastic shoppers we are, we have driven away with some children's chairs and a stunning children's settle (in crackled dark blue on wood). Our return trip next week will see us collecting stools and high chairs.

Our children have all been given the Windsor style chairs as christening presents in the past. He engraves initials into the wood to personalise, should you wish.

I feel a little starry eyed after meeting Mr Willis. We are very lucky to be his 'shop front'.

Time for a cup of tea and a dunking biscuit.

We have a new Barn Playtent on the website today, and along with (yes, you've guessed it) co-ordinating floor mat, beanbag and toy storage basket. The older boys can hide in the Camouflaged Wigwam with the (yawn) co-ordinating sleepbags and floor cushions.

Birthdays are an all-year round occurance, so add a few of our exclusive padded photo frames to your basket for every eventuality. We have hens, bees, boats and soldiers... Spring Light appears at the end of the Winter Tunnel...

Gosh it has been a long winter. And we are not yet through it. More snow forecast for the end of this week.

To banish the winter blues (greys and blacks) we have emersed ourselves in sourcing some beautiful summer outdoors gifts. My son is planning a summer sleep-over in the grass field infront of our house. He has a vision of wigwams, tents, sleeping bags, log fires, hog-roast and toasted marshmallows. I have a vision of mosquitoes and sleep-deprived children.

I have had a strong word with self and am now embracing the cheery gung-ho spirit. The cotton sleeping bags, beanbags, floor cushions, wigwams and playhouses have met with The Event Co-ordinator's approval. All products will be added to our website over the next few days. Everything available through the Little Present Company except, of course, for the roast pig and mallows.

People love co-ordination. When you give a newborn baby a gift, we can offer blankets to match babygrows and pictures to match cushions. It's just all too good to be true. Today we have added a 'soldier' theme to our range of products. Now put that in your wigwam and smoke it.

Fresh Air

I have been to the mountains for a few days away from this grey-dank-damp country. I have returned with a head full of fresh air and inspired design ideas.

The French have their interiors buttoned. Every room has items which have been chosen specifically to co-ordinate as a whole entity. The bed spreads match the cushions which sit handsomely alongside the pictures on the walls and the cushions on the chairs. They are not afraid to mix texture, and nor do they spare any expense.

I have looked at our website www.littlepresentcompany.co.uk with fresh eyes. It is with great pleasure that I can confirm that we, too, have been successful in adding some of the afore-mentioned French style into our site. Our soft blankets sit well with the assorted cushions, the divine wall art compliments the accessories, and on it goes.

Spring is busy trying to burst forth, so it is with equal energy that we will be introducing new 'outdoors' products so that the garden can be as much of a co-ordinated wonderland as the nursery.

Top Drawer Spring Fair 2010

This year's Top Drawer Fair is over for another quarter. Held at Earl's Court, London, the halls were decked with hugely impressive stands and cutting edge design. Amongst the merry throng were a few of our stockists - namely the original and talented Fairbourn Children's Furniture and award-winning Jessica Graham. Here at Little Present Company, we are extremely proud and excited to be affiliated with them.

The Christening season has started. Last weekend we went to our first baptism of the year with friends and family gathered around the font, and I am happy to say that there were a few gifts from the Little Present Company in evidence. Brilliant shopping, guys!

A Look at the Godparents

This month, class, we will be focusing on the Godparent's endless (twice yearly) efforts to find the right present for their godchild(ren).

Whilst we are all flattered when asked to be a Godparent, many of us fail to buy the right present at the right time. If we forget, we upset the parents. If we get it wrong, we disappoint the children ("I'm far too old for Lego.... I'm 9!" etc)

Happy New Year from the Little Present Company

Here at the Little Present Company, Christmas is soo last year. We are concentrating every ounce of our energies on the new start, which is 2010.

We have a very special recipe. An ever-increasing product range + an ever-grateful shopper = widespread good cheer.

We are sourcing more personalised children's clothing (my children love nothing more than wearing a t-shirt which advertise their names) and some super-soft brushed cotton duvet sets to name a few. Without wanting to give too much away, 2010 is going to be a CRACKER.

Crazy Christmas Countdown

There are 15 shopping days left until Christmas. Thankfully we have managed to fill Santa's sack with presents from the Little Present Company this year, so all godchildren, neices, nephews and offspring of friends will be receiving quality gifts. We will be extremely popular, methinks.

Time is almost out for personalising presents if needed in time for Chrimbo, so CHOP CHOP if you want to SHOP SHOP!

Pixel Problems.

We are laughing/crying/pulling out our stylish hair-do's over the Pixels in our new photo uploads. Some of them are crystal clear and almost tangible. Others are stretched, blurred and look like they have been supping on Santa's whiskey (see push-along monkey for demonstation).

We have been sourcing new products and finding some wonderful suppliers. Only last night I found an amazing selection of hand-crafted photo albums, all personalised with felt lettering. I am just waiting for her to get back to me... hope she agrees to affiliate her products with our website!

I am under pressure from the children this year to get the Christmas decorations up pronto. We are off to buy the tree this weekend. I plan to bedeck it in all of the LPC embroidered hearts, gingerbread men and nordic reindeer. It will be extremely handsome and far too classy for all of the hand-made tinsel-items which are coming back from pre-school.

New to this...

This is our first Blog and we are extremely excited to be at the cutting edge of website action. The Little Present Company is growing by the day - lots of new suppliers with some fantastic and original gift ideas.

Christmas is coming (and along with the goose getting fat) we are filling up on wooden toys, personalised canvases, wall stickers and ride-on bikes and scooters. Boys have a few more presents now too, with sporty photo frames and some fantastically sturdy wooden shields and swords on the way.
